Muskan Rastogi Seeks Government Lawyer After Family Withdraws Support in Husband’s Murder Case
New Delhi: Muskan Rastogi, accused of murdering her husband Saurabh Rajput with the help of her lover Sahil Shukla, has requested a government-appointed lawyer after her family refused to support her. News agency ANI reported this on Saturday. Since her relatives are unwilling to help, she has turned to the state for legal aid.
Senior jail superintendent Viresh Raj Sharma confirmed the request, saying, "Yesterday, Muskan wanted to meet me. I called her, and she told me her family is upset and won’t fight her case. So, she is being provided with a government defense lawyer. We are sending a plea to the court because it is the right of the inmate."
Meanwhile, Muskan’s parents have taken a harsh stance, demanding the death penalty for both Muskan and Sahil.
Struggling in Jail Due to Drug Withdrawal
Muskan and Sahil have been in Chaudhary Charan Singh district jail since last Wednesday. They are having a hard time adjusting to prison life. Jail officials say they are extremely distressed, struggling to sleep, and refusing to eat or drink. Some believe they feel guilty, but authorities suspect their condition is due to drug withdrawal.
"Both Sahil and Muskan have been using drugs for a long time. This is causing them restlessness, and they cannot even sleep at night," said Sharma. Doctors have prescribed medication to help with withdrawal symptoms, and a special team is monitoring them. Police confirmed that both were habitual users of drugs and alcohol. Since their arrest, no one has visited them in jail.
The Shocking Murder Case
The case dates back to March 4. Muskan and Sahil allegedly drugged and fatally stabbed Saurabh Rajput, an ex-merchant navy officer. They then dismembered his body and sealed it inside a drum with cement.
After committing the crime, the duo went on vacation to Himachal Pradesh, sending messages from Rajput’s phone to his family to mislead them. The truth came out on March 18 when his family reported him missing, leading to Muskan and Sahil’s arrest.
Muskan and Rajput had been married since 2016 despite opposition from his family. They had a six-year-old daughter. Police revealed that Muskan and Sahil had known each other since school and reconnected in 2019 through a WhatsApp group.
